How To Choose Your Perfect Shade Of Concealer

Concealer is an important part of makeup that helps you achieve a flawless finish.

Concealer can be used for more than brightening and concealing, if you’ve got the right one.

What you should consider most when choosing a concealer is the purpose you want it to achieve and your unique coloring. However, take note that it’s not advisable to use concealer to even out skin tone – that’s the work of your foundation. Concealer is great for blemishes and dark circles.

No matter your intent for getting concealer – from dark under-eye circles to red spots – you will learn the perfect shade for you as you read on.

How to get a concealer shade for your skin tone?

The rule of thumb for picking your concealer shade is based off of your foundation shade.

According to beauty experts, everyone should have two shades of concealer: one lighter, one darker, since daily sun exposure means your skin tone shifts slightly all the time. Plus, makeup artists use multiple shades of concealer for different end effects.

Your under-eye concealer shouldn’t necessarily match your skin color

It is not compulsory for your under-eye concealer to match your skin color if you really want a brightening effect. Although your foundation has to be appropriate, there’s a lot more you can do with your concealer.

For red spots, your aim is to get them to blend into the rest of your skin. Therefore, it is only sensible to make use of a concealer that is exactly the same shade as your skin.

For dark under-eye circles, the objective is slightly different. What you want to achieve is a lighter look. So, go for a lighter shade to lighten the area.

For under-eye concealer

Select a shade that’s around 1-2 shades lighter than your skin. If you have to choose between two products, say one that’s one shade lighter and one that’s three shades lighter, go for the concealer that’s closer to your natural skin tone.

Take this tip

An easy way to find a good match is to test cover-up on the veins on your wrist. If the product hides your veins and looks natural, then it’ll look perfect under your eyes.

For contouring

For contouring, choose a concealer shade that’s 1-2 shades lighter or darker than your foundation shade match.

How to match your spot concealer to your skin

If your goal is to cover pimples and red spots, then opt for a product that’s exactly the same colour as your own skin. Although it’s nice to colour-test your concealer before you buy, there are some general rules of thumb to follow.

Essentially, if you have a light-to-medium skin tone, you’ll want to go for a yellow-based concealer. If you have medium-to-dark skin, go for a red or orange undertone.

Applying your concealer

Regarding applying concealer, applying concealer, some makeup artists suggest that using a clean finger to lightly dab works well. This is because the warmth from your skin helps to soften the concealer making it smoother to apply.

Why Coconut Oil Is Good For Your Hair

Coconut oil is an extremely versatile health and beauty product.

People use it for all sorts of things, from cooking and cleaning to moisturizing their skin and removing their makeup.

Others often use coconut oil to help improve the health and condition of their hair.

This article looks at the amazing benefits of using coconut oil for your hair.

It is important for you to know that daily grooming practices like washing, brushing and styling can cause damage to your hair and leave it looking frizzy, broken and dry.

Washing, styling and coloring your hair can damage the cuticle, rendering it unable to protect the central parts of the hair shaft.

This causes you to lose some of the fibrous proteins that make up your hair’s cortex, making your hair thin, fragile and prone to breakage.

Why Coconut Oil Is Better at Protecting Your Hair Than Other Oils

Coconut oil is often said to be the best oil to use on your hair to reduce protein loss and keep it looking healthy.

Given the current popularity of coconut oil, this would be easy to dismiss as a trend.

However, there is some evidence behind this claim.

One study examined the effects of applying coconut, sunflower or mineral oil to hair before or after washing.

To see which oil was best for protecting hair health, the researchers measured the amount of protein the hair lost after each of these treatments.

They found that coconut oil was better at preventing protein loss than both the mineral and sunflower oils when applied either before or after the hair was washed.

In fact, coconut oil came out on top in all of their studies and reduced protein loss in hair that was undamaged, bleached, chemically treated and UV exposed.

On the other hand, both the mineral and sunflower oils did not have this effect and weren’t found to be effective at reducing protein loss from hair.

It’s thought that coconut oil’s chemical structure is behind its superior ability to protect hair.

Coconut oil is predominantly made up of a medium-chain fatty acid called lauric acid. This gives coconut oil a long, straight structure, which is more easily absorbed deep into the hair shaft.

Sunflower oil contains mostly linoleic acid, which has a much bulkier structure, so it’s not as easily absorbed into the hair.

This means that oils like mineral oil and sunflower oil can coat the hair, but they aren’t absorbed as well into the hair shaft.

Coconut Oil Could Help You Grow Your Hair Longer

Lots of people want to grow long, sleek and shiny hair.

However, day-to-day wear and tear on your hair caused by styling, grooming, the weather and pollutants can damage it.

This can make growing longer hair difficult, as your hair can become more worn and tired the longer it gets.

Coconut oil could help you grow your hair longer by:

  • Moisturizing your hair and reducing breakage
  • Protecting your hair from protein loss and damage when wet
  • Protecting your hair from environmental damage like wind, sun and smoke

To get the most out of coconut oil, you’ll probably need to make it a regular part of your beauty regimen.

You’ll Love These Amazing Things Activated Charcoal Does For Your Skin

You may not know this but charcoal can actually work wonders for your skin.

Sometimes the human skin can get a bit tired and dull.

Now that’s when the detoxifying power of charcoal can help bring your skin back to life.

It can help to draw out debris, oil and impurities, which leads to recharged skin.

You may not know this but charcoal can actually work wonders for your skin.

It’s a trend that’s growing rapidly in skincare, so it’s about time we took a look at some the benefits of charcoal for skin.

How is charcoal skincare made?

First things first – the charcoal used in skincare is not exactly the same as the charcoal used on the bbq grill.

As a first step, wood is heated to mega high temperatures – up to 1200 degrees – to remove hydrogen, tar, and methane.

This leaves behind a highly concentrated carbon substance that burns much cleaner than wood.

The next step is the activation stage. The charcoal may be steamed at very high temperatures to remove any remaining non-carbon elements.

This creates a very porous version, which can help attract chemicals and toxins. Now it’s finally ready to be infused into charcoal skincare products.

Charcoal for skin: benefits, so many benefits!

Let’s now go into the awesome benefits of charcoal for the skin.

Control oily skin

One of the biggest issues with oily skin is its knack of trapping dirt and debris, which can lead to clogged pores. Charcoal’s ability to help gather up these impurities, plus excess oil, can leave you with fresher-feeling, shine-free skin.

Prevent breakouts

Charcoal’s natural grit is great at gently exfoliating skin and getting rid of pore clogging dead skin cells. That can help leave your skin super clean and at less risk of those irritating breakouts.

Tighten pores

Another of the uses of charcoal on skin is to help shrink pores. Not only will that help prevent debris from getting in, it can also help improve your complexion. Fresh faces, here we come.

Treats skin infections

Around the world, many different traditional medicine practitioners use activated charcoal powder made from coconut shells to treat soft tissue conditions, such as skin infections like  eczema and psoriasis.

Activated charcoal also inhibits bacteria and fungus in skin and clogged pores from growing.

Skin exfoliation

Powdered activated charcoal is slightly gritty so it makes a really nice exfoliant. Exfoliation plays a crucial part of a healthy skin regimen because it helps get rid of the dull dead layers of skin so that new and healthier skin underneath can shine it’s brightest.

Smooth and Refined Appearance

With all of the benefits of activated charcoal – antibacterial, antifungal, pore-cleansing, impurity-fighting, and exfoliating – your skin gets a brand new canvas to work with.

Detoxifying your skin of unwanted debris and reducing congestion means an improvement in radiance and brightness with pores looking very tiny.

Activated charcoal face mask

A face mask made with activated Charcoal is deep-cleansing and well tolerated by most skin types.

Activated Charcoal is used in face masks because it is an incredibly porous natural ingredient that is known to draw out impurities and balance the skin’s oil production.

Typically, an activated Charcoal mask will be a skin care product that is applied to the face and left on to deliver a detoxifying effect.
